Twenty-Four Reasons Historic Preservation is Good for Your Community prepared by PlaceEconomics

Historic preservation is a key tool for economic development and the reuse of historic resources enriches the lives of all Augustans. Investing in historic properties is profitable and we can help!

Historic Augusta fulfills our mission of historic preservation through several programs and services. In 2008, Historic Augusta was named a recipient of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Partners in the Field Program which aims to bring more immediate on-the-ground resources and expertise to Richmond, Columbia, McDuffie, and Burke Counties in Georgia and Aiken and Edgefield Counties in South Carolina through our full-time Preservation Services Director .

Historic Augusta is able to advise owners of historic buildings about proper preservation techniques and available resources, assist private property owners with applications for National Register of Historic Places nomination and local historic district design guidelines, historic preservation tax incentives and other programs that will lead to preservation of their property. Charitable donations of historic preservation easements and covenants are accepted by Historic Augusta and we currently monitor 42 historic properties annually. Historic Augusta has developed a three hour workshop entitled Preservation for Profit which aims to educate homeowners, real estate agents, contractors, and other professional about the benefits of historic preservation and the rehabilitation of existing historic building stock and the various benefits such as the tax credit programs.
